The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble is as good as their name implies, a collection of excellent musicians playing a fusion of ska and jazz. They’ve been around since the 1990’s and are currently touring in Europe.
Recently a friend commented about how dispite her other flaws his girlfriend “is a hard worker”, but I observed that she has to be a hard worker in order to get out of the problems she creates for herself.
This seems to be a common theme with the females of The Daycare Generation, because the Angry Ginger turned replacing the radiator in her car into a five day marathon ordeal, complete with a mile long march at 2 pm in 95° heat, while wearing high heels.
Many women of our generation really aren’t hard workers they are just proficient at creating problems for themselves and are thus constantly busy. Hard work is being used to cover bad, impulsive decisions.
Any fool can work hard, the goal is to work smart. Fifteen years in construction in Florida has taught me that hard work is not rewarded with great pay and career oppturnities. In fact, the normal reward at this time of year is a severe case of jock ich.
Besides for that, bonus points are not awarded for cleaning up one’s own mess.
Hell, even the Special Olympics doesn’t give a metal to the runner that gets lost and then find their way back onto the track.
Ondskapt is a Swedish Black Metal band, playing quite ordinary black metal. The only notable aspect is that the lyrics are in Swedish which is abnormal because as a rule general rule black metal lyrics are sung in English. I’d never heard of this band before a week ago and thought I’d share.
More raw black metal from Strongblood playing no frills USBM. There is virtually no information available for the band, sending the message that they are about the music and not the scene. Band members aren’t listed and there isn’t even a band web-site.
The Dandy Warhols, The Black Album is my favorite, released in 2004 as a double album (Come on Feel the Dandy Wartime[cover songs] being the other half), oddly enough it is material that Capitol records rejected years before (Wiki). I am fond of the unpolished sound this displays compared to the much cleaner The Dandy Warhols Come Down.
I will admit that because of the Dig! movie that I refused to listen to the Dandy Warhols and considered them a “guilty pleasure” for long after I did start listening to them, however Wiki does label them as power-pop and neo-psychedelic so my prejudices are explained at least.
This is Lifelover’s ambient promo album. It gets a scathing review on Metallum, but I like it. Lifelover’s style varies so much album to album that this is just an experiment with a different sound. It is defiantly music that one has to be in the mood for, but that can be said for all of their albums and anything ambient or depressive also.
I would say that their discography seems incomplete until one listens to this album, it is not a “great” release with a monotonous and repetitive pace and little outright guitar playing and more distortion than anything, it is a collector’s item for the digital library. Released on tape originally no one is going to bother buying, but as a .zip file it is a must have for any “real” metal head’s hard drive, so enjoy, as much as possible.
Today is Friday the 13th (again) and for a change of pace I am posting part of a Nutty Cock n Nut Sodomy ‘zine. For those who don’t already know, this is one of Das Büt’s weird projects that he uses to offend people… as with all of this guy’s work, “so disturbing it’s funny” is an accurate description.
The Skatalites playing the instrumentals for Prince Buster’s album… there is something deep and profound that this album reveals about the relationship between Prince Buster and Ska, and Jamaican music in general (rocksteady and reggae also).
Prince Buster has been influential but a step removed to the point that it is difficult to box his style into a genre. He is so removed from reggae that he stopped making music because the Rastafarian influences offended his Muslim beliefs… I have no idea what allure Islam could possibly have over rastafarianism, but whatevesies. He lives in Miami likely spending most of his time playing shuffle-board, as old as he is now (74).
