Random Downloads; Veld- Leavings of the Wolf (2013)

Veld is a raw black metal band from Massachusetts, today being a Random Download Day, I choose Veld which Svn-Okklt was kind enough to post, albeit, with virtually no description.
No YouTube, Metallum has virtually no information, around since 2011 putting out three demos, a compilation, and this one eighteen minute track released just this year. Underground as hell with no members listed, most of this bands efforts seem geared towards making music, and that’s it, no flashy self-promotions or other antics, just as true black metal should be. This release has some great tremolo riffs, the lyrics are screamed in proper BM fashion, though there are DSBM influences that slow the song and add another erie, dark element to this track. Defiantly one of the better releases this year, 89%.

Morbid- December Moon (1987)

Morbid was a blackened death/ thrash band from Sweden, formed in 1985 by
Dead, yes the same Dead who later joined Mayhem, who was also commented suicide with the note that read “Sorry about the mess” and was forever immortalized by the album cover Dawn of the Black Hearts.
This is classic in so far as it being Dead’s original band and that it showcases early Swedish death/thrash/black metal (1987), defiantly one for the collection, 89%.

Relationship Advice and Black Metal Wednesday; The Balance of Power and Forgotten Woods- As The Wolves Gather (1994)

Now in my 30’s I’ve noticed that relationships have a definite balance of power, in the good ones it is subtle and compliments each partners individual strengths and weaknesses. That is, in the long term ones, I’m not claiming any sort of special insight here, it is just apparent. I saw this chick at the bar the other day that I went to high school with, can’t remember her name, anyway, she was with an older guy with a few grey strands of hair left, a gut and an expensive SUV. She had too much weight on her too, so it was obvious that this was a long term relationship, no kids I’d guess also. What’s-her-name never was that bright, but evidently she does know when to shut up. Visibly smarter than some 32 year old liberated woman who has never been married. Yes, smarter because no matter what one’s income or place in life having a wife/husband to share in the finances and expenses and hardships makes sense.
Now if one encounters a woman in her 30’s who has never been married, with no children, then she obviously has control issues, at the very least. A decent looking woman doesn’t have a hard time meeting men, and if she doesn’t have children, that means that she would rather have more control than money. That said, don’t expect, as a man, to have the upper hand in the relationship because she has obviously already settled that issue with her ex’s. The “liberated” one has already made it clear that she values control, thus, if she doesn’t get what she wants, it’s over. Duh, why do you think she’s single? One doesn’t see perfectly good flesh-lites lying around unclaimed for the same reason reasonable, sane women don’t stay single for long.
Yes, yes, liberated women are generally real fun in bed, and yes, there are plenty of men out there that need to be told what to do. However, single women in their 30’s aren’t looking for long-term relationship despite claims to the contrary because they are single and there aren’t flesh-lites lying around. Yeah, they’re cool and fun to hang out with because they have not developed any other hobbies, but don’t expect to ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after with a woman who has already made it obvious that she doesn’t want that.
There are a lot of guys out there trying to make relationships work with these women and they basically have neutered themselves in the attempt to appease these women, oblivious to the fact that these are temporary patches, not solutions. These chicks will find a guy that is a bit desperate and totally take advantage of it and boss him around to no end. Then, if the male ever asserts himself or otherwise acts like he has balls, the girl throws a temper-tantrum and “ends” the relationship.
(FYI)

As the Wolves Gather was released back in 1994 by the Norwegians, Forgotten Woods, regarded as one of the first to play in a Depressive Black metal style and still relatively unknown to this day. Good, easy to listen to, likely their best album, 90%.

Introducing “Butt Rock” and Terminator 2 s/t Part 1 (2012)

I am announcing a new genre to the world; Butt Rock. I don’t remember where I found this band and it sat on the back burner for quite a while, but once I started listening to it I immediately envisioned the band giving each other eyebrow piercings with a safety pin in a single-wide trailer while blasting Pantera.
A trio out of Denton, Texas playing a sludgy, doomy form of hard rock. While they are on Metallum this is a case where I have to disagree with the Metal Archives. This isn’t metal.
The seventh song starts off with a sorta catchy bass riff, which is basically the same riff that two previous songs started with, then there is a pause in the middle of the song to solo that same fucking riff for a fourth time! Wtf?! Ohh, yeah, with “intense” vocals screamed “passionately” throughout the whole fucking album as if these clowns listened to way too much Limp Biscuit and Korn at some point and now perceive that distant memory as their own creative ability.
This is Butt Rock in all of its glory and the only really positive thing I can say about it is that the production is pretty good, thus earning it a rating of 51%.

U.G.K.- Ridin’ Dirty (1996)

A southern rap classic, Ridin’ Dirty is Underground Kingz best selling album, a duo from Huston and a scene heavily effected by syzrup (liquid codeine and Sprite) with an emphasis on smooth flowing music which has resulted in a number of artists originating from this scene (Devon the Dude, DJ Skrew, Bun B, Pimp C, etc). I remember Yakke and RK playing this tape back in high school, it was a great album then and still is today, indefinably playable and a perfect introduction to southern rap; 93%.
Today, is Hitler’s birthday, also.

Relationship Advice and Black Metal Wednesday; Women’s Liberation and Black Witchery- The Summoning of Infernal Legions (1998)

The other day in line at Publix I notice this older woman of about 45 in line ahead of me with twelve pack of 8 ounce diet Coke and a microwave dinner, and it struck me that this is what the whole Women’s Liberation movement fought for; the freedom for women to go home to an empty house that she controls where every object is placed… Honestly, that movement has just resulted in the women of our society being bitchier. Now all of them have the right to talk and are totally abusing the privilege, besides for the fact that the vast majority of them don’t have enough sense to be making their own decisions. Old Girl didn’t have a smile on her face and would likely have greatly enjoyed being stuffed in a dog crate with a Go-Cam strapped to her head get bumped around the room and generally shown a good time. Obviously she is kinda dumb and needs someone to take care of her and she obviously ran off everyone who tried by “expressing her independence” (which is code for being an excessively bitchy and or slutty). All for what? To go home to an empty house in her old age and rub the dirty parts while watching MSNBC? Whatevesies, that’s the price of freedom, I guess.

Today we have Black Witchery’s EP from 1998, The Summoning of Infernal Legions. A local band from Winter Springs and one of the older Black Metal bands still around and touring and playing sick music. They are lesser known in America than Europe (where they frequently tour) and one of older black metal bands still around and putting out relevant music. Another “should hear” band, and while American their sound doesn’t really fit into the USBM label. They’re “that black metal band from Winter Springs”, best way of putting it. They play straight up black metal, original, furious, and just bad ass in general. This EP is great and highly recommended, 97%

Random Downloads of Moderate Interest- Vampire Slayer- Psychic Hex (2012)

Today, is the day of Random Downloads of Moderate Interest and a “should hear” band all wrapped into one post. Electronic psychedelic-drone is about as close to an accurate tag as I can give this solo-project brainchild of someone who has evidently prescribed himself Xanax over the Internet.
A smooth soundscape effect, all electronic with kraut and space rock influences subtly heard, this is an interesting album to say the least. A “should hear” band, however bizarre I’d rate it at 88%, but defiantly worth listening to and soothing background music.

Fell Voices- Regnum Saturni (2013)

I’ve had mixed feelings about Fell Voices in the past, honestly, it seems like they are a bit over hyped in the blogosphere, like suddenly they have been dubbed “the cool kids” in an electronic world of patchouli people. This album, just released on March 25, by the Santa Cruz based band playing droney USBM, and yes, it is good, though defiantly hyped.
The first song is masterfully played, but so long and meandering it comes across as a drunk man wandering through the mall parking lot. The second track is more along the lines of what I was expecting, after 17 minutes of the first track it was a present blast back into good black metal. The third track isn’t as strong as the second and is more blackened-ambient/drone, and they have put out other, stronger albums. This album wanders and is longer than what it needed to be, or maybe I’m just not that into them, but this album gets an 85%.
