An Unfortunate Announcement

My dad passed away the other day, a very sad event., I miss him dearly. Taking a brief hiatus from posting, time to gather my thoughts, get the inevitable affairs taken care of and time to recuperate. Dead Meadow’s Old Growth is one of my all time favorite albums and I’ve found myself listening to Between Me And The Ground a lot lately. The lyrics aren’t printed and the listener has to hear the song multiple times to get the gist of it, but it is a psychedelic classic, one of those albums that can easily be left on repeat for days, 99%, enjoy.

Relationship Advice and Black Metal Wednesday; the Real Reason for Marriage and Goatwhore- Constricting Rage of the Merciless (2014)

Men rarely threaten divorce, yet it is the standard threat with women. Ever wonder why?
Marriage is an ancient custom designed to protect the woman and children before they were treated as citizens, which made sense. Modern society has turned women into equal citizens and paternity tests assign parental responsibility regardless of martial status. This freedom has made divorce an easy exit for women, which is fine, but that removes the main motivation for men to marry as well. Divorce is normally more expensive and detrimental towards the male, which means that the relationship will always be less secure for the man than it is for the woman. The ease of divorce and lack of real financial consequences for a woman seeking divorce means that for practical purposes marriage is a one sided street favoring the woman with few tangible benefits for the man other than pleasing his partner and opening himself up to financial headaches. Women know and deny this also, but during the worst arguments wives always threaten divorce, which revels their motivation for getting married.
The purpose of marriage in the modern era is to provide the woman with strategic high-ground during arguments. Women cloud the issue with different “points”, but the real reason for getting married is for the woman to have the upper hand during arguments and ultimately get her way. While dating, both partners are relative equals, which burns women’s souls as badly as a man smiling without them. Thus the reason why all girlfriends are angling, somehow, no matter how subtly, towards marriage.
Women burned their bras in their fight to be treated as equals, but now, forty years later, it’s clear that they have no desire to treat men as equals. This could explain why our forefathers resisted giving women voting rights.
Next week, I will explain why all women want the shower heads with the hose attachment.

Goatwhore’s new release Constricting Rage of the Merciless is great blackened death, plain and simple. Goatwhore has always put out quality albums and this is no exception. I’m not going to dissect it song by song like many of the Metallum reviews, if you like Goatwhore you’ll like this album.
If you haven’t heard them before, I highly recommend a listen, these guys are from Louisiana playing textbook blackened death metal and all of their albums are good enough to be left on repeat. 88%.

The Cosmic Dead- Psychonaut (2011)

Recently I came across the Cosmic Dead, a Glasgow quartet playing droney, psychedelic, instrumental space rock… Twangy guitar riffs and a deep soundscape that blends instruments and riffs into a smooth psychedelic flow. Great session music, 90%, highly recommended as a “should hear” album.

Relationship and Black Metal Advice Wednesday- The Secret Sexist Conspiracy and Wolves in the Throne Room- Black Cascade (2009)

Women think that they are perceived as stupid for reasons other than their words and actions. Seriously. They think that there is some hidden, sexist conspiracy, plotting to repress their talents. It’s a near universal trait among women also. If a woman thinks another is stupid, she’s labeled a bitch, if a man does, he’s sexist. I’ve never heard a woman say, “He/she thinks I’m dumb because I said something really stupid”. It’s like those Sex in the City whores, they spend years fucking every guy they can and then can’t figure out why they haven’t found Mr Right. Never occurs to any of them that they’re doing something wrong themselves. I think the whole series ended happily with all of their vocal chords being surgically removed. It’s either that or they all dry up and learn how to cook, I can’t remember.
Honestly, listening to a woman try and discern why she is viewed as stupid is like watching a dog chasing it’s tail.

Ok, my last review of Wolves in the Throne Room was luke warm and I haven’t listened to them much since, but there was a time when I was a fan and listening to this album again brought me back around. Yes, there is a trendiness about them, but a few of their albums are really, really good too. A duo hailing from Washington state, signed to Southern Lord Records and playing masterful USBM, they defiantly fall into the realm of “true black metal”.
WitTR has a refined sound that leans towards symphonic and assuredly not lo fi, so heavy use is made of synthesizers. In Black Cascade the synths are subdued and not overpowering, unlike some of their releases… Really, they are hit and miss and always have been. The first demo was epic (I’m doing a post about it next month), but the second demo was disappointing, but their next two releases, Diadem of 12 Stars and Two Hunters were great. Black Cascade has solid guitar and drum pieces that aren’t drowned out by the synthesizers and rates a 88%, recommended and WitTR is defiantly a “should hear” band for any modern metal head.

Relationship Advice and Black Metal Wednesday- What Men Really Mean and Zevuv; demo (2013)

Relationship Advice and Black Metal Wednesday returns! Six months of writers block ends today!

One of women’s favorite responces start with “You mean…” and, “Why?”.
A master electrician friend of mine told his dispatcher that he “wanted to get off Friday at a civilized hour. Like 3 o’clock.” She asked why. In the past I’ve noted that women were excluded from government and decision making throughout the majority of human history and pointed to possible explanations, but the stupid questions are the most likely culprit. Seriously, if there were a think-tank for stupid questions it would probably be a committee of women and homosexuals.
It’s not like teenage girls are any worse or better than the adult females either;
“Look down and to your right. Your right. Your other right”
“You mean my left?”
No, I mean you’re sixteen and can’t tell your right from your left.
Another great one is, “You don’t have to shout”. No, it seems I do. The first two times I answered you didn’t listen and replied with “what?”. For some reason I don’t have to repeat myself to the dog. I don’t have to shout at the nephew to get my point across either, but communicating with a woman can be like trying to carry on a conversation at a shooting range.
It’s just an observation, I’m not being chauvinistic.

Today we have Polish black metal by the name of Zevuv. Tremolo riffs and utter hatred felt in the lyrics. I’ve been listening to this demo for almost an hour straight; it is quite good and should be a poster child for Polish black metal, incorporating many different sounds in this demo. Polish black metal has a distinct sound that floats between Soviet bloc and way ahead of the time.
Great demo, definitely a “should hear”, not over produced or cheesy, this falls into the realm of “true” black metal, 90%.

U.G.K.- Ridin’ Dirty (1996)

A southern rap classic, Ridin’ Dirty is Underground Kingz best selling album, a duo from Huston and a scene heavily effected by syzrup (liquid codeine and Sprite) with an emphasis on smooth flowing music which has resulted in a number of artists originating from this scene (Devon the Dude, DJ Skrew, Bun B, Pimp C, etc). I remember Yakke and RK playing this tape back in high school, it was a great album then and still is today, indefinably playable and a perfect introduction to southern rap; 93%.
Today, is Hitler’s birthday, also.

Relationship Advice and Black Metal Wednesday; Women’s Liberation and Black Witchery- The Summoning of Infernal Legions (1998)

The other day in line at Publix I notice this older woman of about 45 in line ahead of me with twelve pack of 8 ounce diet Coke and a microwave dinner, and it struck me that this is what the whole Women’s Liberation movement fought for; the freedom for women to go home to an empty house that she controls where every object is placed… Honestly, that movement has just resulted in the women of our society being bitchier. Now all of them have the right to talk and are totally abusing the privilege, besides for the fact that the vast majority of them don’t have enough sense to be making their own decisions. Old Girl didn’t have a smile on her face and would likely have greatly enjoyed being stuffed in a dog crate with a Go-Cam strapped to her head get bumped around the room and generally shown a good time. Obviously she is kinda dumb and needs someone to take care of her and she obviously ran off everyone who tried by “expressing her independence” (which is code for being an excessively bitchy and or slutty). All for what? To go home to an empty house in her old age and rub the dirty parts while watching MSNBC? Whatevesies, that’s the price of freedom, I guess.

Today we have Black Witchery’s EP from 1998, The Summoning of Infernal Legions. A local band from Winter Springs and one of the older Black Metal bands still around and touring and playing sick music. They are lesser known in America than Europe (where they frequently tour) and one of older black metal bands still around and putting out relevant music. Another “should hear” band, and while American their sound doesn’t really fit into the USBM label. They’re “that black metal band from Winter Springs”, best way of putting it. They play straight up black metal, original, furious, and just bad ass in general. This EP is great and highly recommended, 97%

Random Downloads of Moderate Interest- Vampire Slayer- Psychic Hex (2012)

Today, is the day of Random Downloads of Moderate Interest and a “should hear” band all wrapped into one post. Electronic psychedelic-drone is about as close to an accurate tag as I can give this solo-project brainchild of someone who has evidently prescribed himself Xanax over the Internet.
A smooth soundscape effect, all electronic with kraut and space rock influences subtly heard, this is an interesting album to say the least. A “should hear” band, however bizarre I’d rate it at 88%, but defiantly worth listening to and soothing background music.

Mission Of Burma – Signals, Calls and Marches… (1981)

Ok, the picture is horrible, but Saturday morning saw this homeless prophet sitting on the steps of the College Park Baptist Church giving everyone the finger. Good for him, today’s selection is Mission of Burma, an early post-punk/indie band from Boston (Wiki), I feel I should have already known about these guys. The name is familiar, but this is really a Random Tag, early post-punk, originally formed in 1979, this album was recorded in 1981, really at the peak of analog recording. Post-punk is an excellent genre to showcase the deep, rich sound derived from analog.
Years ago Danger drove all the way to NYC to buy this old, 16 track, reel to reel, and I didn’t understand why he would do such a thing, until I heard the recording he crafted out of that thing. Bands would drive here from all over the South to have him record them, and Signals, Calls and Marches is a good example of why people love analog, with the guitars and drums and cymbals coming through with a deep, rich, textured clarity that is lost with digital recordings. Defiantly recommended, 92%.
